UofM, Rebels to meet at Pavilion in Oxford
OXFORD, Miss. -- The University of Memphis men's basketball team will play Ole Miss Dec. 5 in Oxford, the fourth time in six seasons the two Mid-South programs have met,
Ole Miss officials announced the date Monday. The Dec. 5 game will be played at The Pavilion on the Ole Miss campus.
The Tigers lead the series, which began during the 1922-23 season, with 27 wins versus 14 losses. Memphis won last year's game, 87-86, at FedExForum, the third-straight win during a season-long 10-game winning streak.
Memphis finished 21-10 last season and returns the bulk of its roster, including Damion Baugh, Boogie Ellis, D.J. Jeffries, Lester Quinones, Alex Lomax, Lance Thomas, Malcolm Dandridge and Jayden Hardaway. Each of the eight started at least one game last season and Jeffries (10.8 points per game) and Quinones (10.7) averaged double figures.
Ole Miss returns Devontae Shuler and KJ Buffen, both of whom started all 32 games for the Rebels (15-17) last season. Shuler averaged 11.7 points per game and Buffen 10.1.
The Tigers also have announced games against Southeastern Conference opponents Auburn, Georgia and Tennessee. Memphis plays Auburn Dec. 12 in Atlanta in the Holiday Hoopsgiving event at State Farm Arena. The UofM plays at Georgia and against Tennessee in Nashville.
