Achiuwa earns 10th AAC weekly honor

PROVIDENCE, R. I. – University of Memphis freshman forward Precious Achiuwa was named to the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll Monday for his performances in games against SMU and Tulane last week.

For the two games, Achiuwa averaged 19.5 points and 14.5 rebounds and shot 65 percent from the field.

In Saturday's 74-67 overtime win at Tulane, Achiuwa posted his 16th double-double of the season in spectacular fashion. He scored 22 points and set a season-high with 22 rebounds and tied a season-high with five blocks.

In Tuesday's 58-53 loss at SMU, Achiuwa led the team with 17 points and seven rebounds, despite being limited to 19 minutes because of foul trouble.

The 22 rebounds at Tulane were an American Athletic Conference record for a freshman. Achiuwa became only the third player in league history to post a 20-20 double-double and only the second freshman.

The only freshman in the nation averaging a double-double, Achiuwa has started each of the team's 29 games and leads the Tigers in scoring (15.5) and rebounding (10.4).

Achiuwa was honored by the league for the 10^th time this season. He earned Player of the Week Nov. 25 and is a five-time winner of Freshman of the Week and a four-time recipient of the weekly Honor Roll.

Memphis (20-9, 9-7 AAC) resumes play Thursday at 8 p.m. against Wichita State at FedExForum. It will be the final regular-season home game for the Tigers and has been designated a `White Out' with all fans encouraged to wear white.
