MEMPHIS, Tenn. – On the heels of garnering American Athletic Conference Player of the Week earlier in the day, Memphis baseball's Hunter Goodman was named the D1Baseball/AstroTurf National Player of the Week, the organization announced Monday.
Goodman becomes the fifth Tiger all-time to garner National Player of the Week honors from a college baseball publication and first position player since Tucker Tubbs earned Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week honors in 2015.
Throughout the Tigers' 4-0 week, Goodman posted 24 RBI. In the Tigers' three-game series against Western Illinois, Goodman produced 22 RBI behind four home runs - three of which were grand slams on each day - two doubles, seven runs scored and also stole a base.
On Sunday the Preseason All-Conference selection set a Memphis and American Athletic Conference single-game record with 11 RBI. His 11 RBI on Sunday are also the most in a Division I game this season.
For the season, Goodman drove his RBI total to 29 and home run total to seven, both of which currently rank second nationally.
The Arlington, Tenn., native caught three of the four games defensively while also playing first base in the weekend finale. Behind the plate, Goodman registered 41 putouts as the Tigers racked up 60 strikeouts across the four-game stretch.
