Men's tennis sweeps Temple for conference opening win

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – At home in Memphis for the first time this season, the men's tennis team showed up and showed out in a 7-0 sweep over the Temple Owls.
The win moves the Tigers up to 4-8 on the year, and a 1-0 start to American Athletic Conference play.
Memphis had little trouble getting the match started, taking the doubles point in quick succession on Courts 1 and 2. The pair of Jan Pallares and David Stevenson won the first court with a 6-1 win, while the tandem of Oscar Cutting and James Story capped off the point 6-2.
From there, the Tigers continued their momentum into singles play, taking three courts in straight sets. Cutting continued his strong play, winning 6-1, 7-5 on Court 2. James Story also took his court in straight sets, winning 6-2, 6-1 on Court 3, and Jeremy Taylor took control of a 6-2, 6-3 win of his own.
The bout also had its matches that went the distance, as David Stevenson took his third set 6-1 to earn Memphis another point. Jan Pallares and Patrick Sydow, manning the first and last courts, respectively, went to third-set tiebreakers, each of which was won by the Tigers.
Memphis stays at home for its next match, as the Tigers take on UCF at Memphis University School next Sunday. Match time against the Knights is set for noon.
