Men's Tennis suffers setback against SEC opponent Vanderbilt
Feb 07, 2020 | Men's Tennis
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After winning the doubles point, the Memphis men's tennis team wasn't quite able to carry the win into singles, falling 5-2 to Vanderbilt Friday evening.
Doubles play took finishes from all three courts after the first two split results After Court 1 finished in Vanderbilt's favor, Jan Pallares and Patrick Sydow responded with a 6-4 win on Court 2.
The final court, played by James and Matt Story, went to a tiebreaker to decide which team earned the doubles point. The brothers took control of the tiebreak, winning 7-2 to win the point for Memphis.
The Tigers weren't able to maintain that momentum into the singles portion of the match, winning only one bout of singles in Oscar Cutting's three-set victory on Court 3.
Memphis remains in Nashville for a neutral site match against Harvard on Saturday. Match time against the Crimson is set for an adjusted 2 p.m.
