Tigers' freshman forward honored by AAC for ninth time this season
PROVIDENCE, R. I. – University of Memphis freshman forward Precious Achiuwa was named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week Monday for his performances in victories over East Carolina and Houston last week.

Achiuwa posted his 15th double-double of the season in a 77-73 win over ECU at FedExForum and followed with a gutty 10 points and six rebounds in a 60-59 upset of No. 22 Houston on Saturday, also at home.

In the win over ECU, Achiuwa scored 24 points – one off his career-high – and added 12 rebounds. Against Houston, he struggled from the field (1-of-9 shooting) but was aggressive in the paint. He drew six fouls in the second half and converted them into eight free throws (in 12 attempts). The Tigers made 16 of 22 free throws in the second half.

The only freshman in the nation averaging a double-double, Achiuwa has started each of the team's 27 games and leads the Tigers in scoring (15.2) and rebounding (10.1).

For Achiuwa, he was honored by the league for the ninth time. He earned Player of the Week Nov. 25 and is a five-time winner of Freshman of the Week and a three-time winner of the weekly Honor Roll.
