Women’s Golf Fourth on Day One at Old Friends Invitational

TAMPA – The University of Memphis women's golf team is in fourth place at the end of day one of the Old Friends Invitational at Tampa Palms Golf & Country Club. The Lady Tigers are four strokes behind third place James Madison with a day one 613 (300-313).
Two Tigers in Top 10
Victoria Gallegos, who ended the fall with a top 10 finish at the Jim West Invitational, is working on a top five finish now, standing fifth at 149 (+5). Gallegos fired a 73 in her opening round and a 76 in the second to end day one in the top five.
Freshman Victoria England is in position for her first career top 10 finish following a day one 152 (74-78). At +8, she is three strokes off the top five heading into Tuesday's final round.
Career Low Round for Matzat
Julia Matzat carded her best collegiate career round on Monday morning. She posted a 74 in the first round and stood tied for fifth at the end of 18 holes. Her second round 85 dropped her to a tie for 26th, but still in position for her first career top 20 finish.
Low Round of the Day
The low round of the day went to High Point's Samantha Vodry. Her second round 67 was the bets of the day and moved her to second at 144 (E), just two strokes off the lead.
Just One Under Par
USF's Erika Smith was the lone golfer to record scores under par on day one. Her back-to-back 71s has her in the individual lead at 142 (-2).
Host Team Leading the Field
Host USF is leading the field at the end of day one at 587 (293-294). High Point (598), James Madison (609), Memphis (613) and Richmond (622) round out the top five.
Final Round Tuesday
