Memphis women’s basketball to face Houston Tuesday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis women's basketball team will host Houston on Tuesday, December 22nd at 12 p.m. CT at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse. The matchup will be available to stream on ESPN+. The Tigers lead the overall series, 19-16, but fell to the Cougars, 75-65, last year in Houston on January 5th.

Memphis heads into the Tuesday matchup coming off a 74-68 loss to Alabama. The Tigers battled back after trailing 44-29 at the half. With less than two minutes left on the clock, Memphis narrowed the scoring margin down to just one point, but a series of made free throws by Alabama in the final seconds of regulation solidified the win for the Crimson Tide.
Senior Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu led the team with 19 points and nine rebounds, marking her fifth double-digit scoring game of the season. Jatyjia 'Tye' Jones and Alana Davis were the only two other Tigers to score in double-digits against Alabama. Jones totaled 15 points, 11 of which were scored in the final quarter, and six rebounds while Davis had 13 points and five rebounds.

Houston opens American Athletic Conference play in Memphis after having its last two competitions postponed. The Cougars have not seen action since snapping Stephen F. Austin's five-game winning streak on December 11th. Against the Ladyjacks, redshirt sophomore Miya Crump totaled a season-high 16 points, two blocks and three steals. She knocked down two three-pointers in the fourth quarter to help spark the run that ultimately secured the Cougars first win over SFA since 1990.
The Cougars are led in scoring by Britney Onyeje with 16.7 points per game. Tayana Hill leads the team with 6.3 rebounds per contest. Dymond Gladney paces the Cougars with 11 assists this season. Houston averages 73.8 points per game on 39.4 percent shooting from the field.
