IRVING, Texas — The National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of Fame have announced University of Memphis associate professor of law Lynda Black as one of the 12 faculty athletics representatives who will be honored as part of the 2020 NFF Faculty Salutes Presented by Fidelity Investments.
This honor highlights the significant contributions of faculty athletics representatives across the nation. As part of the initiative, each school with an NFF National Scholar-Athlete receives recognition for their faculty athletics representative and a $5,000 donation from Fidelity to support the academic support services for student-athletes at the schools.
Black is being honored in conjunction with Memphis senior quarterback Brady White being named to the 2020 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class. As a member of the class, White is a finalist for the Campbell Trophy. Commonly known as the Academic Heisman, the Campbell Trophy is presented to the college football player with the best combination of academics, community service and on-field performance. White was selected as a finalist from a record number of 199 semifinalists.
"As the Faculty Athletics Representative for the University of Memphis, I have a front row seat to witness the academic accomplishments of our remarkable student-athletes," said Black. "At the UofM, we are excelling; Brady White epitomizes this excellence. I am honored to be recognized by the National Football Foundation and Fidelity Investments and most grateful for the contribution to our academic support services. Go Tigers!"
White is currently a PhD candidate in liberal studies. He earned his bachelor's degree in business from Arizona State and a master's degree in sports commerce at the UofM.
"Honoring the faculty athletics representatives from the schools with NFF National Scholar-Athletes sends a powerful message," said NFF Chairman Archie Manning. "There is no group more committed to the well-being of our student-athletes, and the NFF National Scholar-Athlete success stories provide a natural vehicle for emphasizing the important contributions of the faculty athletics representatives across the country."
