Oct 01, 2020 | Football
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) announced Thursday the semifinalists for the 2020 William V. Campbell Trophy® Presented by Mazda and redshirt senior quarterback Brady White was among the 199 selected. He is one of 85 FBS nominees.

In its 31st season of honoring college football's most impressive student-athletes, the award recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership.

Eligible student-athletes must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of playing eligibility. Candidates must maintain a 3.2 GPA, have outstanding football ability as a first team player or significant contributor and demonstrate strong leadership and citizenship.

White, a native of Santa Clarita, Calif. who is in his third season donning the Blue and Gray, carries a 3.58 cumulative grade-point average and is currently pursuing his doctorate in humanities. He is a two-time American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team member and was a 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team honoree.

Most recently, White was named the AAC Offensive Player of the Week for leading Memphis to a 37-24 season-opening win against Arkansas State. He currently sits 365 yards shy of matching former Tiger Riley Ferguson for third on the Memphis career passing yards list. He currently has 7,590 career passing yards and 63 touchdowns. His 63 touchdowns are third-most in program history.

In addition to his numerous accolades on the gridiron, White has made a significant impact on the Memphis community. During the 2019 season, White completed 35 hours of community service, which included visits to LeBonheur Children's and St. Jude Children's Hospitals. His work in the Memphis community also included work with the Jessie Reed Foundation, helping distribute Joy Jars to hospitalized children, and with Gardenview Elementary School as part of the Tiger Blue Holiday.

He also served his fellow Tiger student-athletes on a panel for freshman student-athletes as part of the department's ACAD class. Although the pandemic has restricted the program's access to the community, White has also read a book on camera that the local school systems used on their Facebook page.

The NFF will announce 12-to-14 finalists in November, and each of them will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2020 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class Presented by Fidelity Investments.

Later this year, one member of the class will be declared as the winner of the 31st Campbell Trophy® Presented by Mazda, having his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000 and receiving his own 25-pound-bronze version of the iconic statue.
