Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu leads Tigers with career-high 22 points
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Cincinnati closed the game on a 10-0 run from the free throw line in a 73-66 road win at Memphis Wednesday. Memphis falls to 9-6 on the season and 0-2 in American Athletic Conference play.
Leading the Tigers were Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu, who scored a career-high 22 points and Keke Hunter, who pulled together her third double-double of the season.
Hunter helped Memphis get off to a lightning start, scoring a near career-best 12 points and snaring six rebounds to pace the floor in just the first quarter. Behind Hunter's start, the Tigers were able to bounce out to a 22-13 lead, shooting 55 percent from the floor. On the defensive side of the ball, the visitors were held to just 32 percent shooting to go along with three first-quarter turnovers.
The offense slumped in the second, as Cincinnati was able to regain its footing. After a laser-focused first quarter, turnovers plagued the Tiger offense, allowing the visiting Bearcats to erase their deficit and steal a 32-31 lead heading into the break.
Memphis had a solid third quarter offensively, shooting 63 percent and scoring 24 points. With the offense back on track, the Tigers headed into the fourth quarter with a 55-50 lead.
The fourth quarter was fiercely contested into the late stages of the game, until free throw shooting allowed Cincinnati to pull away in the closing minutes. During the period, Fankam Mendjiadeu eclipsed the 20-point barrier for the first time in her Memphis career. She finished with a career-high 22 points.
Memphis hits the road for its next contest, heading to New Orleans, La. for the weekend to take on Tulane on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m and the game will air on ESPN3. For more information on the Memphis women's basketball team, follow the Tigers on social media at @MemphisWBB.
