The Tigers head to Greenville, North Carolina in search of their first conference road victory of the season. Despite falling to UCF in game one of this two-game road swing, junior guard Julan McDonald posted a career-high 14 points behind four made three-pointers. McDonald did all of that in 14 minutes of action off the bench for Memphis.
Continuing her sharp-shooting ways, freshman Madison Griggs hit three shots from downtown against the Knights, upping her season total to a team and conference-leading 54 three-pointers. Griggs now sits 16 threes shy of matching former Tiger Alex Winchell's single-season record of 70 set during the 2009-10 season. Two more threes and Griggs will crack the top 10 list.
Jamirah Shutes continues to lead the team in scoring while Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu is the team leader in rebounds. During conference play, Fankam Mendjiadeu is third in field goal percentage at 62.3 percent, seventh in rebounding at 8.3 boards per game and 14th in scoring with 13.7 points per outing. She is the lone Tiger to have started in every game this season.
Tuesday evening marks the 33rd meeting between the Tigers and the Pirates. Memphis owns a slight 18-14 advantage, with wins in five out of the last seven meetings. ECU has won the previous two games in Greenville, however, as Memphis seeks its first win at Minges Coliseum since Feb. 13, 2016.
A Look At The Competition
After starting the season 3-4, ECU has dropped the previous 12 contests. Most recently, the Pirates fell to UConn on their home floor by a score of 98-42.
Although the Pirates struggle offensively, ECU is very disruptive on defense. ECU averages 13.7 steals per game and forces its opponents into nearly 25 turnovers per outing.
Three players are averaging double-figure scoring for ECU, led by LaShonda Monk's 15.2 points per game. Monk is the team-leader in steals as well, posting 74 this season. Raven Johnson is the team's leading rebounder, coming down with 8.3 boards per game. She is also averaging double digits with 11 points per game.
Kim McNeill is in her first season at the helm of the Pirates' program. This is her fourth season as a head coach.
