Men's tennis closes tournament play with strong weekend

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – In preparation for its dual-match slate, Memphis men's tennis capped tournament play at the LaLance Invite, hosted by Middle Tennessee.
Competing against in-state foes Middle Tennessee, Belmont and Vanderbilt, Memphis posted 18 singles wins and nine doubles victories throughout the weekend.
Individually, James Story, Jeremy Taylor and Patrick Sydow swept their weekend slate in singles play, with Sydow earning straight-set wins in each decision.
In doubles play, a mixed lineup yielded two wins on Friday, four on Saturday and three on Sunday. Sydow and Jan Pallares claimed three wins in doubles play. The duo first won its opening match of the weekend on Friday. Sydow then claimed wins along side Marshall Sullivan and Matt Story, while Pallares turned in two more victories with partner James Story.
The best day of the weekend came on Saturday, when Memphis swept eight singles matches and four doubles contests against Belmont. Of the eight singles wins against the Bruins, Memphis produced six straight-set victories.
The Tigers open dual-match play on the road this weekend. Memphis will first travel to Indiana for a 4 p.m. first serve on Friday before closing the weekend at Northwestern on Sunday at noon.
