Sophomore setter piled up 114 assists, 38 digs in last weekend's two matches.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – University of Memphis sophomore Sabrina Bianco has been named to the American Athletic Conference Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll, the league office announced Monday. It is the fourth time this season a Tiger has earned the accolade, as Meredith Wallace did so Sept. 3 and Flowers Sept. 9 and Sept. 23.
It is the first conference weekly honor roll recognition of Bianco's career. Earlier this season, she was named the EIU Panther Invitational Most Outstanding Player in helping lead the Tigers to the tournament crown.
Last weekend, Bianco handed out 114 assists and collected 38 digs in Memphis' two road matches at Tulane and Houston. The transfer from New Mexico posted career-highs for assists with 60 versus the Cougars Sunday and digs with 21 against the Green Wave Friday. Her 60 helpers versus Houston were the most by a Tiger in a match since 2013 when Veronica Zimmerman had 65 assists in the season finale versus USF (Nov. 29, 2013).
She recorded double-doubles (assists-digs) in both matches, bringing her season total to six. Bianco has seven 40-plus assists performances in 2019.
Bianco leads the team with 567 assists and is second on the squad with 137 digs. She is third in the American Athletic Conference in assists per set (10.5) and second in the league in total assists (567).
Memphis returns to the Elma Roane Fieldhouse for its American Athletic Conference home-opening weekend Oct. 4 and 6. The Tigers host Wichita State Friday at 7 p.m. (CT) and welcome Tulsa Sunday at 1 p.m. (CT). Admission to both matches is free.
