MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After a 2-0 start to league play, four Memphis women's soccer student-athletes were listed to the American Athletic Conference weekly awards list, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
The league recognized sophomore Claire Abrey (Offensive Player of the Week), junior Elizabeth Moberg (Goalkeeper of the Week), freshman Mya Jones (Rookie of the Week) and sophomore Caroline Duncan (Honor Roll) after the No. 11/21 Tigers shutout UCF on Thursday and turned in a 2-1 win at No. 16 USF on Sunday.
Abrey collected her first conference honor after scoring her first two goals of the year at USF. The sophomore broke an early stalemate with her first score in the 31st minute. After the Bulls found an equalizer early in the second half, Abrey provided the game-winner for her first career brace.
In goal, Moberg turned in another shutout before posting a season-best performance this week. The Port Saint Lucie, Fla., native began the week with her sixth clean sheet at UCF with a pair of saves. The junior then registered a season-high seven saves at USF.
The nod gives Moberg her sixth career Goalkeeper of the Week accolade and third of the season.
Adding another career award, Jones picked up her third Rookie of the Week honor. The freshman assisted on the opening score on Sunday. She played the full 90 minutes against the Bulls, while logging 79 minutes at UCF. Her six assists on the season now move her into fifth all-time in program history for single-season helpers by a freshman.
Behind a strong defensive effort, Duncan earned her first career league weekly award with her Honor Roll appearance. After helping the Tigers to their eighth shutout of the season at UCF, Duncan was pivotal in limiting the Bulls' top offensive threats in the Tigers' 2-1 win at USF. Duncan also played all 90 minutes in both contests.
The Tigers return to action on Thursday to host UConn. Kickoff from Park Avenue Campus is set for 7 p.m.
