My Favorite Things: Mia Migliore

It's always special returning home, and that's what freshman Mia Migliore is doing this weekend when the Tigers open American Athletic Conference play at Tulane in New Orleans. Migliore is from Covington, La., which is roughly a 50-minute drive north of the "Big Easy."

Friday's appearance at Tulane is Migliore's first trip back to her home area since joining the Memphis program over the summer. As a prep standout in the New Orleans area, Migliore was a Louisiana Volleyball Coaches Association (LVCA) All-State pick and helped lead her Archbishop Hannah High School squad to the 2018 Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) Division IV state championship and a 40-6 record.

At Memphis, Migliore has played a big role in the Tigers' early-season success, which saw the team post a program-record 11-0 start to 2019. She has seen action in 10 matches and has 97 digs. She was named to the Tiger Brawl All-Tournament Team as she collected 36 digs and added seven service aces in helping lead Memphis to a 3-0 record in the Sept. 6-7 tournament.

Let learn a little more about Migliore and a few of her favorite things:

My favorite volleyball memory was… When I was about 12 years old, my dad teaching me the steps to a jump-float serve. I would hit the ball so hard off the back-patio wall to where it would ricochet, hit the outdoor lamp, and both of us hoping it would not fall and break and eventually laughing about it.

The No. 1 thing on my bucket list is… To travel to Europe.

My favorite part about playing volleyball is… Digging a hard-hit ball, it going target, and everyone in the stands cheering because it was such a fun play!

The three words that best describe me are… Bubbly, hard-working, positive.

I chose to attend and play volleyball at the University of Memphis because… I knew I wanted to play out-of-state. I live in a small town and the thought of playing in a fun and lively city like Memphis got me excited! I also liked the coaches' vision of how I could make an impact on the team.
