Austin Hall earns spot on weekly honor roll
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Sophomore punter Adam Williams was named the American Athletic Conference's special teams player of the week it was announced by the league, Monday. It is the first weekly honor of Williams' career.
In a 42-6 road win against South Alabama, Williams punted four times for a 48.2 yards per punt average. Two of his four punts travelled over 50 yards and two were downed inside the 20. His one touchback in the game just snuck past a teammate's fingertips to miss being downed at the one.
Williams now ranks second in the American Athletic Conference with a 46.4 yards per punt average. Of his 11 punts on the year, four have been downed inside the 20, four have travelled 50 or more yards and three have gone for touchbacks.
Williams is the first Memphis punter to earn the special teams weekly honor since Spencer Smith received the honor on September 28, 2015.
Teammate Austin Hall earned a spot on the AAC Weekly Honor Roll on Monday as well. The Collierville native had two fumble recoveries, including one for his second career touchdown, in the win at South Alabama. He also added a quarterback hurry, a pass break up and finished second on the team with six total tackles.
The senior linebacker now ranks third on the roster with 12 total tackles and leads Memphis with two fumble recoveries. In 41 career games, Hall has 216 total tackles, 20 pass breakups, two forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries.
Memphis has a bye this Saturday and opens American Athletic Conference play the following Thursday in a nationally-televised game on ESPN against Navy. That game kicks at 7 p.m. (CT). Tickets for the game remain on sale at www.GoTigersGoTix.com.
