My Favorite Things: Andrea O'Connor

Transfer from High Point making impact for the Tigers in 2019.
When a program receives transfers, the student-athletes usually bring some game experience with them. That wasn't the case for University of Memphis volleyball when Andrea O'Connor decided to join the squad in 2019 after spending last season at High Point University.
Â
O'Connor practiced at High Point and used the redshirt season to work on her overall game. Her improvement has paid dividends for the Tigers this year.
Â
The Stamford, Conn., native stars at middle blocker for the Tigers and is second on team in total blocks with 14. She collected a career-high six total blocks against UT Martin in last weekend's Tiger Brawl championship-match victory. O'Connor also is fifth on the team with 27 kills.
Â
Let learn a little more about O'Connor and a few of her favorite things:
Â
My favorite part about playing volleyball is… Being able to escape what's going on in life. I can just go out, play and have fun.
Â
My favorite volleyball memory was… When my high school won the state championship my junior year. It was one of my favorite teams to play on. We were super close. We had a lot of good energy, and we had a good time.
Â
The three words that best describe me are… Out-going, ambitious, fun.
Â
My pre-match superstition is… I have to warm up the same way. I hate doing things differently. When I'm warming up my arms, it has to be the same routine.
Â
The thing that drew me to Memphis was… When I committed to High Point, Taylor (Unroe) was the assistant coach there, and then she left (for Mississippi State). I really liked her when I committed to High Point. So, when I transferred from High Point, I saw she was coaching here and that's when I reached out to Memphis.
Â
