Memphis enters the weekend after splitting its two-game slate in UAB's Soccer for a Cure Classic. The first match in Birmingham, Ala., featured a goal from freshman Jovan Prado, his second of the year. After allowing an equalizer, senior Sam Ashton gave the Tigers the win with a PK in the 72nd minute. On Sunday, Memphis dropped a 1-0 decision to Mercer.
So far this season, the scoring for the Tigers has been balanced. Five Memphis players have scored a combined eight goals through the first four matches of the year, with three players having scored twice. Gurman Sangha, Prado and Ashton all lead the way with two goals apiece.
The Tigers and Musketeers have played once before on the pitch. On Sept. 27, 1986, Memphis took a 4-2 win in a neutral-site match in Bowling Green, Ky.
Scouting the Musketeers
Xavier hosts the Tigers with a 3-0-1 record heading into the weekend. Most recently, the team finished a 2-2 draw with the No. 9/17 Kentucky Wildcats on Wednesday night. After leading 2-0 in the 56th minute, the Musketeers allowed two goals from Kentucky before the end of regulation, setting the table for the draw when neither team scored in the overtime periods.
As a team, Xavier's calling card has been strong keeper play through the early parts of the season. Despite being outshot 57-40 by opponents, goalkeeper Matthew Rosenberg has allowed just three goals, giving himself a 0.71 goals allowed average on the year. The redshirt junior has recorded 25 saves, including a season-high 12 against the Wildcats.
Head coach of the Musketeers is Andy Fleming. Now in his tenth season at Xavier, he holds a record of 101-55-31 at the helm of the program.
