Five Things To Know About Memphis
- Memphis opened the 2019 season with a 6-0 shutout victory against Little Rock on Thursday night. First-half goals from Clarissa Larisey (3), Tanya Boychuk (2) and Serena Dolan (1) were all the Tigers needed to claim their largest margin of victory in a season opener since Memphis beat Little Rock 7-1 to open the 2007 campaign.
- Junior Clarissa Larisey tallied three consecutive scores in a 3:26 span to collect a natural hat trick on Thursday night. Her hat trick marked the first time a Tiger netted three scores in a match since Christabel Oduro scored four straight goals against Houston in 2013.
- Memphis opened the regular season ranked No. 20 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll and No. 24 in the TopDrawerSoccer Poll. This year marks the second time in program history the Tigers began a season ranked (2012).
- The Tigers had three student-athletes listed to the American Athletic Conference Preseason Team. Senior Serena Dolan and juniors Clarissa Larisey and Elizabeth Moberg were tabbed to the preseason team earlier this month, with Moberg also adding the league's Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year honors.
- Sunday's match marks the 22nd meeting in the Memphis vs. Ole Miss derby. Ole Miss leads the all-time series by an 11-8-2 margin, but the Tigers hold a 8-7-1 edge since head coach Brooks Monaghan took over in 2000. Ole Miss is Memphis' third-most common opponent in the program's history. The Rebels are Memphis' most common opponent with a team in which it has never shared a conference.
A Look at Ole Miss
Ole Miss visits the Bluff City after a 2-0 home shutout against North Alabama to open its 2019 campaign. Channing Foster connected on a penalty kick in the 28th minute, while Mo O'Connor scored in the 75th minute to set the final.
The Rebels were picked to finish eighth in the SEC Preseason Coaches Poll and received 18 votes in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll. Despite losing one of its biggest offensive weapons in the program's goal leader CeCe Kizer, Ole Miss returns 14 letterwinners to its 2019 roster, including seven starters.
