MEMPHIS, Tennessee – Recent University of Memphis graduates Sydney Colwill and Michaela Fletcher are in California getting ready for Stage I of LPGA and Symetra Tour Q-School. Rising senior Abby Herrmann is also competing in the event as an amateur, testing the waters on consideration of professional golf in her future.
The first stage of q-school will be played on the Dinah Shore, Palmer and Shadow Ridge courses at Mission Hills Country Club starting Thursday.
There are 361 players entered in Stage I. All players will play one round on the Dinah, Palmer and Shadow Ridge courses. After 54 holes, the event will make a cut. The final round, which is scheduled for Sunday, will be played on the Dinah course.
The LPGA/Symetra Tour Q-school is a three-stage process made up of Stage I, Stage II and LPGA Q-Series. The LPGA Q-Series is a two-week tournament that replaced Stage III.
At the end of the Q-Series, competitors who finish #1-45, including those tied for 45thplace, receive LPGA Membership in Category 14 on the LPGA Priority List. Competitors who finish outside the top 20 will also receive Symetra Tour Membership in Category C on the Symetra Tour Priority List.
A minimum of the top 60 and ties from Stage I qualifies for Stage II, which will be played Oct. 14-17 at Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Florida.
Colwill and Fletcher already have some competition experience on the Mission Hills courses. They both played q-school prep events in the past two weeks. Colwill posted a pair of top 10 finishes.
Colwill goes off tee one at 8:25 a.m. PT on the Arnold Palmer course. Fletcher goes off 10 at 7:45 a.m. on the Dinah Shore course, the same course where Herrmann will also go off on 10, at 8:05 a.m. Scores post at www.lpga.comat the end of each players' respective round.
