JACKSON, Tennessee – The University of Memphis football team went through one final practice on the University of Memphis Park Avenue Campus before loading up and heading east on I-40 for its annual training camp stay at Lambuth.
The Tigers will be in-residence in Jackson through Saturday, getting a chance for the team to get to know one another before returning to the UofM main campus on Saturday afternoon.
"We've got some new coaches, we've got new players, it's just a great opportunity to have all of our focus on this team," head coach Mike Norvell said. "We get a better understanding of who we are and what we are establishing the identity of this football team to be, and just try to get better and build relationships."
The camp experience is the first for a number of Tiger newcomers, including coaches.
"We've got an exceptional group of newcomers, great talents and great young men that are working hard and put us in position to do great things," Norvell said, adding, "this trip goes a long way toward building that trust in this team."
After checking into the dorm, the team had position meetings and walk through. Wednesday night will feature a special guest speaker and the first camp fire night. The team breaks into smaller groups and sits around various campfires, getting to know their teammates.
Thursday morning will feature practice and additional team building opportunities for the Tigers.
Camp closes Saturday with an open practice/scrimmage at the football field on the UofM Lambuth campus. That free event begins at 10 a.m. and ends around noon. Concessions will be available for sale at the event.
Season tickets for the 2019 season are on sale now at www.GoTigersGoTix.com. A three-pack of tickets that includes the season opener against Ole Miss are on sale now and includes the Ole Miss game and any other two Memphis home games remaining on the schedule.
Single game tickets for Ole Miss go on sale on August 19.
