Tigers leave Wednesday afternoon for Jackson.
MEMPHIS, Tennessee – The University of Memphis football team has just one more practice in town before loading up the busses and heading to Jackson, Tennessee, Wednesday afternoon. For a fourth-consecutive season, the Tigers are conducting three days of training camp on the University of Memphis Lambuth campus. The team is scheduled to arrive in Jackson at 2:30 pm Wednesday.
But first, Memphis worked through practice 10 and another day with the heat index well over 100.
"It was still a warm day," head coach Mike Norvell said "but it was a much better response."
The Tuesday session included 25 periods of work and some guidance from Norvell on what he hopes the team gained on back-to-back hot days.
"This is reality, at the end of the day, we don't know what its (weather) going to be like on August 31 and we have to prepare for all elements," he said. "It was good seeing them be mentally tough, not having bad body language, and showing their toughness with their actions. I was pleased with how we responded."
The team will practice in Memphis Wednesday morning and then will depart for the Lambuth camp. The camp sessions in Lambuth were something Norvell brought to the Tigers and are something the team uses to build its off-the-field-bond.
"I'm looking forward to just hanging out with some of the other guys, the offensive guys, and getting to know them," junior linebacker JJ Russell said.
The Lambuth camp will break on Saturday morning with an open practice/scrimmage that begins at 10 a.m. Admissions and parking are free.
