2019 Tigers Football Fall Camp - Practice 9
Aug 12, 2019 | Football
MEMPHIS, Tennessee – In the eyes of Mike Norvell, fall camp started Monday. Yes the Tigers already had eight practices and their annual Fan Fest under their respective belts, but it still started Monday. Why? Not because summer classes were done and the team had slid in to its in-season morning practice routine. It was because 'camp weather' had arrived, with heat indexes pushing past 100.
"Today was the first day of fall camp in my eyes," Norvell said. "We started off well and had good energy. But as we went on, we found some guys who sparked, but not enough."
The 25-period practice followed a busy off-day for the team.
After taking the 2019 team photo at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium, the Tigers ventured downtown to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, where they were welcomed for the Tailgate with the Tigers event. Upon arrival, Norvell and Le Bonheur President Michael Wiggins addressed the players, coaches, patients and families in attendance of the tailgate.
"This hospital is not only saving lives, but it's building better and brighter futures for these young kids coming here," said Norvell. "We play a small part by bringing a smile to their face on any given day. We're building friendships and future Tiger fans, which is all we could ever ask for. Thank you to Le Bonheur for the wonderful relationship we have and the impact that you not only make on this city but in the entire country."
Players spent the evening mingling with patients and families. In addition to participating in various lawn games, there was an autograph session for those in attendance. A group of players also made a trip into the hospital for patients unable to come down to the tailgate.
Cheer, Pom, Pouncer and the Drum Line also made an appearance at Tailgate with the Tigers.
The team will continue training at the University of Memphis through Wednesday before leaving for training camp at the UofM's Lambuth campus. Memphis will spend Wednesday through Saturday in the confines of the Lambuth campus in Jackson, culminating with an open practice on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Season tickets and 3-game packs of tickets for the 2019 season are on sale now at www.GoTigersGoTix.com. Single game tickets for the season opener go on sale Monday, August 19.
