MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Local football player Trevis Hopper (Central) was one a number of University of Memphis student-athletes to enroll in second session summer classes Monday. A graduate of Memphis Central, Hopper is a 6-3, 285-pound defensive tackle who was listed as a three-star recruit by 247Sports. ESPN.com listed Hopper as the number 23 recruit in the state of Tennessee. He and Jashon Watkins (Nashville/East Nashville Magnet), who also enrolled on Monday, were both top 25 recruits in the state of Tennessee in the ESPN.com rankings.
"We are extremely excited about the addition of Trevis Hopper into the Tiger family," said Head Coach Mike Norvell. "It is always great to keep one of Memphis' finest home to represent their hometown and this wonderful University. Trevis is a dynamic player and has a tremendous future in front of him as a Tiger!"
In 2016, Hopper was named the Class 5A Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Lineman of the Year. As a senior, he helped Central to an 8-3 record under coach Major Wright, finishing the year with 52 total tackles, including 11 TFL, and four sacks. He helped Central advance to the second round of the TSSAA 6A playoffs and was named a Tennessee Sports Writers Association Class 6A all-state honoree. Following his senior campaign, he played in the 2018 AutoZone Liberty Bowl All-Star Game.
