Track And Field Receives Academic Honor

Tigers men's, women's squads take home USTFCCCA All-Academic awards.
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The University of Memphis men's and women's track and field squads earned U.S. Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team awards for 2018-19, the organization announced Tuesday. It is the eighth-consecutive season both teams received the national honor.
The Tigers men's program posted a 3.28 grade-point average (GPA), which was tied for 33rd-highest among the schools that received the accolade.The women's GPA was 3.31. Nationally, 227 women's programs and 139 men's programs were honored for their academic accomplishments in 2018-19.
Memphis is one of four American Athletic Conference institutions to have both its men's and women's track and field programs earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Team accolades (Cincinnati, Tulsa, Wichita State). Among state of Tennessee NCAA Division I institutions, Memphis was one of five schools to place its track and field teams on both USTFCCCA All-Academic Team lists (Belmont, East Tennessee State, Lipscomb, Tennessee).
Earlier this year, the Memphis men's and women's cross country teams received similar recognition from USTFCCCA for the 2018 season (link to cross country academic award release). The Tigers men's and women's track and field/cross country programs also combined to place 45 student-athletes on the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team that was announced in early July.
