Four student-athletes claim Scholar Athlete honors
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Following a successful academic season, the Memphis women's tennis program was named an ITA All-Academic Team while four student-athletes were recognized as ITA Scholar Athletes, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced.
An ITA All-Academic Team award is eligible for any program that reaches a cumulative team GPA of 3.20 or higher during the 2018-19 academic year. Scholar Athlete status is awarded to student-athletes who have lettered, have a GPA of 3.50 or higher and have been enrolled in their current institution for at least two semesters.
In the classroom, the Tigers' women's tennis program turned in a 3.47 cumulative GPA for the 2018-19 school year. Individually, sophomores Laura Bente (3.78) and Lina Hohnhold (3.98) and juniors Josephine Cao (3.72) and Katherine Cao (3.82) each earned Scholar Athlete honors.
Friday's announcement marks the second academic recognition for the team this month. Previously, a program-record eight student-athletes were named to the American Athletic Conference's All-Academic Team on July 11. Along with Bente, Hohnhold, Josephine Cao and Katherine Cao, Hannah Davies, Kayla Klazmer, Claire Sullivan and Aleks Topalovic were named to the AAC All-Academic Team.
