MEMPHIS, Tennessee – The semifinals of the TBT Memphis Regional have been set.
Game one, tipping at 5 p.m., will feature the Jackson (TN) UnderDawgs against the Southern Gentlemen.
Jackson (TN) took out the top-seeded Gael Force, 59-50, in a low-scoring affair that featured 25 Force turnovers. Despite shooting 0-for-21 from three, the UnderDawgs turned all of the Force turnovers into 27 points and out-scored the Force in the paint 46-14.
The Southern Gentlemen suited up just five players for the opening game of the tournament, but that was all they ended up needing in a 92-82 victory. Using a 48-30 edge in points in the paint, the Gentlemen were led by E. Victor Nickerson, who finished with 29 points on 10-for-17 shooting from the field and 6-of-10 shooting from three in the win over the Broad Street Brawlers.
The second semifinal will feature the Louisiana United against Bluff City. The United kept a sizeable Team Arkansas fan base quiet most of the night in a 76-60 win. Tyren Johnson led the way for the United with 23 points and 14 rebounds, helping Louisiana out-rebound Arkansas 58-40 and stick back 22 second chance points compared to two for Arkansas.
The last match-up of the night featured a pair of teams with Memphis roots, but it was tournament host Bluff City that prevailed in a 92-80 victory. Chris Crawford led Bluff City with 22 points on 8-for-14 shooting and a team-high six rebounds. Former Tiger Willie Kemp led Team 901 with 16 points and had a team-high five assists in a loss.
The semifinals will begin at 5 p.m. at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse. Tickets are on sale at the door. Parking is available in the parking garage attached to the Elma Roane Fieldhouse for $7.00 (cash). Both semifinals can be viewed on ESPN3.
