Track And Field On International Stage In July

Pryke, Persiado, Sheere in competition last week.
NAPLES, Italy and GAVLE, Sweden – Last week, three University of Memphis track and field performers competed on the international stage at the World University Games (Italy) and European U23 Championships (Sweden). Ashley Pryke and Imri Persiado were in Italy, and Adar Sheere in Sweden.
Pryke threw in the women's javelin, and Persiado raced in the men's 200 meters at the World University Games.
Pryke, a three-time All-American (2017-19) at Memphis, placed fifth (176-2; 53.70m) in the women's javelin qualifying round and advanced to the event's final. She finished 12thin the final with a throw of 163-5 (49.82m). Pryke was a member of the Canadian team.
Persiado, who earned 2019 All-America second team honors as a member of the Memphis 4x100-meter relay, placed second (21.65) in his opening heat of the men's 200 meters. In the semifinal round, he was fifth (21.40) and did not advance to the final. Persiado was a member of the Israeli team at the Games.
At the European U23 Championships, Sheere represented Israel in the men's discus. He placed 12th(178-1; 54.30m) in the preliminaries and qualified for the event's final. He finished 11th(176-9; 53.89m) in the final.
The Tigers track and field international summer continues this week with Tate and Zachary Wyatt running in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase at the Pan American Championships in Costa Rica. The brothers, who are members of the Canadian team, race July 20 at 7:15 p.m. (CT).
Later this month (July 25-28), Davon DeMoss runs at the USA Track and Field Outdoot Championships at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
