Patrick Taylor listed to Maxwell Award Preseason Watch List

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Senior running back Patrick Taylor was named to the 83rd Maxwell Award Preseason Watch List Monday.
The Humble, Texas native heads into his senior campaign at Memphis ranked fourth in career rushing yards (2,534), eighth in career carries (458) and fourth in rushing touchdowns (31). Taylor finished 2018 with 208 carries for 1,122 yards and 16 touchdowns, making him just the sixth back in Memphis history to post a 1,000-yard rushing season (DeAngelo Williams, 3 times; Curtis Steele, 2 times; Darrell Henderson, 2 times, Curtis Steele, 1 time; Dave Casinelli, 1 time).
Taylor recorded six of his 10 career 100-yard rushing games last year, including the last four games of the year (at SMU, vs Houston, at UCF, vs Wake Forest). He has scored a rushing touchdown in seven straight games entering 2019. He had six multiple rushing touchdown games last year (South Alabama, UConn, Missouri, SMU, and Houston).
A three-time member of the American Athletic Conference all-academic team who has appeared in 39 career games, Taylor received the team's Most Improved Offensive Player Award last year and leads a crew of Memphis running backs that includes mostly underclassmen in 2019. He added 17 catches for 197 yards and two touchdowns last year, including a 75-yard touchdown catch against Mercer in the season opener that tied for the longest pass play of the season.
The Maxwell Award is named in honor of Robert W. "Tiny" Maxwell and has been given to the College Player of the Year since 1937. Maxwell's contributions to the game of football were extensive, including time as a player a sportswriter and an official.
