MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Senior defensive end Bryce Huff has been named to the Bednarik Award Watch List that was released Monday.
Last season, while helping Memphis to back-to-back West Division titles in the American Athletic Conference, Huff recorded 49 tackles, 9.5 sacks and 19 TFL. His 9.5 sacks is the sixth-best single season mark in Memphis history and his 19 TFL was fourth all-time. A three-year letter winner, Huff was named second team all-conference in 2018. He also received the Highland Hundred's Most Improved Defensive Player Award at the end of the season.
Coming in to 2019, Huff moves to a defensive end position under new defensive coordinator Adam Fuller. In 37 career games, Huff has 84 career tackles, 24 TFL and 11.5 sacks for 72 yards. He also has two quarterback hurries, two PBU, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. His 24 TFL currently has him ninth in the Memphis record books.
The Bednarik Award is in its 25th season and has been presented to the College Defensive Player of the Year. Bednarik, a former standout at Penn and with the Philadelphia Eagles, is a member of both the College Football (1969) and NFL's (1967) Halls of Fame.
Huff was one of two Tigers named to preseason watch lists on Monday. Senior running back Patrick Taylor was also named to the Maxwell Award Watch List.
