Tiger Football Beginning to Move to Park Avenue Complex
Jul 10, 2019 | Football
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Fans pulling up to the Athletic Office Building to purchase their 2019 football season tickets will find a little traffic starting Wednesday. The moving trucks have arrived and started moving the Tiger football staff into its new addition at the Billy J Murphy Athletic Complex.
"We are excited and grateful for the renovation and development of our football facilities at the Murphy Sports Complex," Head Coach Mike Norvell said. "The new facilities will provide an enhanced student-athlete experience that will focus on their mental and physical development as well as a state-of-the-art-rehabilitation center."
The addition, the first of a two-phase project, includes new coaches offices, a new athletic training area and dining and recruiting areas. As the first phase goes through its final inspections and punch lists, the Park Avenue-based staff will have to contend with another construction project going on right outside its new office windows.
"The completion of Phase 1 of the project will allow us to be more efficient in daily operations and maintain an all-inclusive approach to improvement of our players," Norvell said. "We are excited about the seamless transition to construction of Phase 2 and the indoor practice facility. Thanks to Dr. M. David Rudd, the Board of Trustees, and all of our supporters that have allowed this project to become a reality. It is just another example of the progression and commitment to Memphis Tiger football the focus to #KeepCLIMBing in all we do."
The second phase of the project, which includes an indoor field, has been approved for construction, and groundwork prep has begun.
The coaches quickly will try to get settled into their new spaces as the full team reports to camp on August 1. The first practice of the 2019 season will be August 2 and the first chance fans get to see the newest version of the Tigers will be Fan Fest on August 10 at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.
