Lofton Returns to Athletics as Interim Senior Associate AD

Replaces Eric Sabin, who resigned to join the staff at Clemson.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Bill Lofton, who served the Memphis Athletics Program for over 18 years, will return to the department as the Interim Senior Associate Athletics Director for Finance it was announced Monday. Lofton replaces Eric Sabin, who has taken a new position at Clemson.
A native of Memphis, Lofton graduated from Memphis State in 1972 with a degree in management and marketing. He began his business career that year with International Harvester, starting as a cost accountant and advancing to senior cost accountant and office systems and procedures analyst.
In 1981, he left International Harvester to become the Vice President of Business Affairs for The Memphis College of Arts. There, he was responsible for budgeting, purchasing and fundraising, while also supervising financial operations and facilities management.
Lofton joined the staff at then-Memphis State in 1984 as the manager of Financial Planning. He was named the University's Administrative Employee of the Year for the 1990-91 year and spent over 11 years in that role before joining the Athletic Department in August of 1995. In the athletic department, Lofton managed day-to-day operations in finance and served as the department's director of operations in the absence of the athletics director.
Lofton rejoined the University in April of 2014, working part time for the Vice President of Business and Finance and the Chief Operating Officer doing special project work.
