Tigers Tidbits
- Davon DeMoss earned his first career NCAA Outdoor Championships berth in the men's 100 meters Friday. He advanced to the national meet with an 11th-place finish (10.23 seconds).
- Davon DeMoss became the first sprinter in program history to qualify for the NCAA Championships in both indoor and outdoor seasons in the same campaign since 1982. DeMoss ran in the men's 60 meters at the NCAA Indoors in early March. Victor Lacey ran in the NCAA indoor (440 yards) and outdoor (400 meters) meets in 1982.
- Julian Sanchez-Pinto shaved nearly 10 full seconds off his personal-best in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase in qualifying for the NCAA Championships. On Friday, he placed 12thin a time of 8:46.49. His previous-best was 8:56.37 at the 2018 American Athletic Conference Championships (won bronze).
- Julian Sanchez-Pinto is the first Tigers distance runner, male or female, to earn a spot in the 3000-meter steeplechase for the national meet since Mate Nemeth did so in 2004. Sanchez-Pinto is only the third Tiger, male or female, to advance to the NCAA Championships in a distance event (Mate Nemeth/3000m steeplechase: 2003, 2004; Martina Rodriguez Sala/1500m: 2018).
- Freshman Adar Sheere punched his ticket to the NCAA Championships with a ninth-place performance in the men's discus. His 189-3 (57.69m) effort improved his personal-best by eight inches. He threw 188-7 (57.48m) in winning gold at the 2019 American Athletic Conference Championships.
- Sheere is the first freshman male athlete to earn an NCAA Championships berth since Jordan Wesner did so in the men's high jump in 2016.
- Davon DeMoss moved on in the men's 200 meters Friday. He ran a 20.73 to advance to Saturday's quarterfinal round in the event.
- Davon DeMoss also runs in the men's 4x100-meter relay Saturday, giving him the opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Championships in two more events (three total).
