May 18, 2019 | Men's Basketball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Five-star forward Precious Achiuwa, ranked as the No. 9 overall prospect in the Class of 2019, is the latest member of a Top 10 nationally ranked University of Memphis recruiting class.
Achiuwa was listed ninth on the final 247Sports' Composite rankings.
The 6-foot-9 Achiuwa attended Montverde (Fla) Academy near Orlando during his senior season. He began his high school career at St. Benedict's Prep in New Jersey.
Achiuwa has had an impressive post-season run. He scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds playing for Team World in the Nike Hoops Summit in mid-April at the Moda Center in Portland, Ore.
At the prestigious McDonald's All-American Game, he finished with a game-high 22 points and added nine rebounds for the East Squad.
At St. Benedict's Prep, Achiuwa was a force. In a key victory in January 2018 over the Newark, New Jersey area's top-ranked team – Hudson Catholic – Achiuwa scored 19 points with 10 rebounds. He also helped lead the St. Benedict's to the Prep A Tournament Championship in 2018.
Achiuwa joins former St. Benedict's Prep teammate Lester Quinones at Memphis. The two have played together on various teams since junior high, including New Heights, the New York-based AAU team. Quinones signed a National Letter of Intent earlier this month.
