Pool play begins Friday for two Tigers in national 3-on-3 event

MINNEAPOLISĀ -- University of Memphis seniors Jeremiah Martin and Kyvon Davenport will be part of a four-man squad representing the American Athletic Conference when pool play in the 2019 Dos EquisĀ 3X3U National Championship begins Friday at the Mall of America.
The rosters for the 3-on-3 national championship were announced earlier this week. The fieldĀ features nearly 100 All-Conference honorees, including 45 first-team selections, eight conference Players of the Year, eight conference Defensive Players of the Year, 11 USBWA All-District performers, nine conference tournament Most Outstanding Players and a Consensus Second-Team All-American.
Martin, the 10th-leading scorer in Memphis history, was a unanimous all-conference pick. He led the AACĀ in scoring with a 19.7 average to become the first Tiger to do so since Will Barton led Conference USA with an 18-point average in 2012. Davenport led the Tigers in rebounding (6.9) and averaged 13.1Ā points per game. Martin and Davenport join Tulane guard Jordan Cornish and East Carolina guardĀ Isaac Fleming on the AAC squad.
Competition at the second annual event will be held Friday through Sunday.Ā The tournament is comprised of all-star teams of seniors, who have exhausted their collegiate eligibility, representing all 32 Division I conferences. The teams will compete for a $150,000 prize pool, with the champions taking home $100,000, double the prize money from a year ago.
Additionally, the winners will earn the right to compete in the 2019 USA Basketball 3x3 Open National Championship, scheduled for May 3-4 in Las Vegas.Notable participants include Wisconsin All-American Ethan Happ, Minnesota forward Jordan Murphy, all-time NCAA 3-point leader Fletcher Magee of Wofford and USBWA District II Player of the Year Justin Wright-Foreman of Hofstra. Other All-District honorees set to compete include Oklahoma's Christian James, Drake's Nick McGlynn, Cornell's Matt Morgan and Arkansas State's Ty Cockfield.
All games of the Dos Equis 3X3U National Championship will be carried live on Twitter or ESPN2. Pool play will begin at 2Ā p.m. CT on Friday, with 24 games streamed live exclusively on Twitter.
The AAC team opens play at 3:20 p.m. Friday vs. the A-10 and will return at 6:30 p.m. to play the Big West.
Pool play will continue on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. CT with 24 more games streamed live exclusively on Twitter. Round of 16 and quarterfinal games will be streamed live exclusively on Twitter at 9:30 a.m. CT on Sunday, with semifinal, consolation and championship games televised live on ESPN2 later that day at 2Ā p.m. CT.
Teams have been assigned into eight pools of four and each team will be guaranteed three pool play games, earning $1,000 for every victory on Friday and Saturday. The top two teams in each pool will move on to Sunday's knockout stage, where the stakes skyrocket. The championship team will take home $100,000, while the runners-up will share $2,000 and the third-place team will win an additional $1,000.
