Keke Hunter Joins Women's Basketball Squad

South Plains College transfer will have two years of eligibility at Memphis
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Building on to the highest-ranked recruiting class under the direction of head coach Melissa McFerrin, the University of Memphis women's basketball team welcomes Keke Hunter, a junior college transfer from South Plains College. Hunter brings championship experience to the Memphis program.

Hunter, the 15th-ranked post player in the NJCAA, comes to Memphis after spending a season at South Plains College where she led her No. 10 Lady Texans to an Elite 8 finish at the NJCAA Div. 1 Women's Basketball National Championship. In her final contest at South Plains, Hunter posted her 22nd double-double of the season, dropping 17 points with 13 rebounds in 32 minutes of action.

With a strong performance at the national championship, Hunter was named to the All-Tournament Team. She also earned First-Team All-Region and First-Team All-Conference honors last season.

After opening the season with three consecutive double-doubles, Hunter was named the NJCAA Women's Basketball National Player of the Week. For the week, Hunter averaged 17.7 points and 14.7 rebounds.

South Plains finished the season with a 30-5 overall record and Hunter saw action in all 35 contests. Hunter led her squad in multiple categories, including:

Hunter finished the season with 532 total points and 371 rebounds. She also recorded 65 steals and 38 assists for South Plains. She recorded 11 20-plus point performances including a career-high 34 points in a victory of Palo Alto College.

Keke is a proven double-double production post player. She is a high-motor player with rebounding tenacity, great hands and an ability to finish around the basket. She is going to fill the stat sheet night in and night out.
