DeMoss Earns AAC Weekly Honor

Senior won two events, set two personal-bests in action last week.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – University of Memphis senior Davon DeMoss has been named the American Athletic Conference Male Track Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

It is the fourth career weekly honor for DeMoss. The accolade was DeMoss' second outdoor honor of his career. He also received recognition twice in the indoor season.

After a steady transition from the indoor campaign which saw DeMoss run at the NCAA Championships in early March, the Jackson, Tenn., native ramped it up at last week's Crimson Tide Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Ala. It was the first meet of the outdoor campaign in which DeMoss ran in three or more events. In the previous three outdoor meets of 2019, he had only raced two events.

DeMoss was a double-winner at the Crimson Tide Invitational, taking first place in the men's 100 meters and 4x100-meter relay. He won the 100 meters in a meet record 10.25 seconds. It also was a personal-best time for him in the event. DeMoss also ran a leg on the first-place 4x100-meter relay that finished in a time of 39.69. The 39.69 time was .10 seconds off the school record from a year ago, a relay on which DeMoss ran.

DeMoss also placed fifth in the men's 200 meters in a time of 20.72 seconds, which was also a personal-best.

In the American Athletic Conference rankings, DeMoss is fourth in the 100 meters, second in the 200 meters and second in the 4x100-meter relay. He also ranks among the NCAA East Region leaders in the 100 meters (11th), 200 meters (21st) and 4x100-meter relay (11th).

The Tigers return to action this week at Auburn's War Eagle Invitational Friday and Saturday, Apr. 19-20.

Alumni Reunion Reminder
Memphis' track and field program is holding an alumni reunion weekend Apr. 26-27 on the University of Memphis campus. A special reception is scheduled for the Hardaway Hall of Fame, located at 570 Normal Street, on Friday, Apr. 26. The 2019 Memphis Invitational takes place Friday and Saturday, Apr. 26-27 at the Billy J. Murphy Track and Field Complex located on the University's Park Avenue campus.
