Becomes the 19th Tiger to earn a spot on the NFF's honor roll.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Former Memphis center Drew Kyser was named Wednesday to the National Football Foundation's (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society. Celebrating its 13th year, the Hampshire Honor Society is comprised of football players from all divisions who have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or better throughout their respective college careers and have completed their final season of eligibility.
Kyser also will be honored on Monday April 22 at the Memphis Chapter of the NFF and College Football Hall of Fame dinner at the Bryan Campus Life Center on the campus of Rhodes College.
A native of Opelika, Alabama, Kyser appeared in all 53 career games at Memphis with 52 starts, a Memphis record. A three-time honoree on the Rimington Trophy Watch List and a semifinalist for the NFF Campbell Trophy, Kyser centered a Memphis offense that ranked fifth in FBS football in 2018 with 7,324 total yards and third with 279.9 rushing yards per game. In Kyser's junior season, Memphis ranked sixth in FBS with 335.0 passing yards per game and sixth in total yards (6,917).
Centering some of the most prolific offenses in school history, Kyser helped Memphis to its fifth consecutive bowl appearance in 2018, just days after he completed his undergraduate degree in history in December.
A three-time American Athletic Conference all-academic team honoree, Kyser also was named to the Dean's List in spring of 2018 and has been on the Tiger 3.0 club for eight semesters.
Kyser is currently working to become a firefighter and EMT. Because of his training schedule, he will miss the April 22 Memphis Chapter dinner.
The Memphis Chapter of the NFF will honor 11 high school seniors and a college player from both Rhodes and Memphis (Kyser). Individual tickets to the dinner are available by calling John Barzizza at 901-489-0023. Cost is $50 per person. A social hour reception begins at 6 pm and the dinner and program begin at 7 pm.
Kyser is the 19th Tiger to earn a spot on the Hampshire Honor Society in its 13th year. Former teammates Jake Elliott and Daniel Montiel earned the honor in 2017 and Riley Ferguson and Nick Jacobs were named to the 2018 team.
