Jamirah Shutes Named to AAC All-Rookie Team

Shutes led the freshman class with 13.8 points per game
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the regular season awards, with freshman Jamirah Shutes being named to the All-Rookie Team.
The Brownsville, Tennessee native led the Tigers in points on the year, averaging 13.8 points per game in 27 appearances. Shutes led the Tigers in scoring 14 times, the most among any AAC freshman. She scored in double-figures 20 times, including five games of 20 or more points. In her Memphis debut, she scored 20 points on 14 shots, marking the first time she would score 20-plus. On December 21st, she scored a career-high 25 against Little Rock.
Her scoring average was the seventh-highest in the AAC and led the freshman class. At the charity stripe, the All-Rookie Team member put together a streak of 38 consecutively made free throws, a school record. Her free throw percentage of 69.4 percent was second among freshmen.
Shutes led the team in three-point shooting, connecting on 32 triples in the regular season. That total is tied for the fifth-most in a season by a freshman in Memphis history.
Outside of her scoring, Shutes grabbed 4.0 rebounds per game and dished 57 assists. Defensively, she led the team and ranked 10th in the AAC in steals, swiping 1.5 possessions per game. Additionally, she blocked 15 shots, which was tied for third on the team.
Shutes is the first Memphis player since Mooriah Rowser and Breigha Wilder-Cochran in 2014 to be named to the AAC All-Freshman Team.
