MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – For a second-consecutive season, University of Memphis junior Levi Clark advanced to the smallbore discipline final and placed sixth in the nation at the 2019 NCAA Rifle Championships Friday. West Virginia University is hosting the two-day championships event.
Â
Clark placed sixth in smallbore for the second year in a row and became the first shooter in program history with back-to-back, top-10 finishes in the discipline. Clark's head coach, Dan Hermsmeier, was fifth in smallbore in 2011 and the program's graduate assistant, Beth Lee, placed eighth in 2014.
Â
"Levi came ready to perform today, and his effort showed," said Hermsmeier. "To qualify for the NCAA Championships two years in a row and place sixth overall both years is no easy feat. Levi represented the team and University well, and we couldn't be prouder of him."
Â
Clark shot a 587 in his relay Friday morning. His 587 score was the second-highest in the two relays and advanced him to the discipline's final Friday afternoon. In the final, the Clackamas, Ore., native shot a 413.3 to place sixth.
Â
His 413.3 score was five points higher than his 408.1 last season that also resulted in a sixth-place finish. Clark's 587 in the relay was two points higher than last year's 585. His 587 was one shy of tying his career-high of 588, which he posted at the NCAA Sectional Qualifier Feb. 16.
