Tigers post 5-2 win against Temple

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – No. 50 Memphis men's tennis posted a 5-2 win in a league matchup against Temple Tuesday afternoon at the Racquet Club of Memphis.
For the 10th time this season, the Tigers (9-4) claimed the opening doubles point to establish an early advantage. After Matt Story and Jeremy Taylor claimed a 6-1 win on court 3, the duo of Oscar Cutting and David Stevenson posted a 6-2 victory at the top spot.
In singles, the Tigers continued the momentum and built a 3-0 lead. Cutting was first off with a 6-0, 6-1 win. Senior Chris Patzanovsky, who checked in at No. 123 in Tuesday's Oracle/ITA poll, then followed behind a straight-set effort.
Freshman Patrick Sydow earned his first match-clinching point in singles play with a 6-4, 6-3 win.
Playing out the match, Temple gained its first point of the day with a 7-5, 6-2 result on court 2, and then earned another match point on court 3. Freshman David Stevenson split his first two sets, but took a 10-7 victory in a third-set tiebreak to set the final score.
The Tigers begin a seven-match road streak, starting Friday at No. 18 Oklahoma. First serve from Norman, Okla., is set for 7 p.m.
