Men's tennis faces Temple for first league match of 2019
Mar 04, 2019 | Men's Tennis
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis men's tennis returns to the Racquet Club of Memphis Tuesday afternoon for a league tilt against Temple. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
The Tigers (8-4) seek to snap a three-match skid. Most recently, Memphis dropped a pair of road contests at Dartmouth and Harvard two weekends ago.
Despite the team setbacks, senior Chris Patzanovsky and freshman Oscar Cutting improved their records in singles play. Patzanovsky claimed a three-set thriller at Harvard to push his win streak to four matches and 8-1 overall, all coming at the No. 1 position. Cutting, who has split time among the bottom three spots in the lineup, also improved to 8-1.
In doubles, Cutting and freshman David Stevenson anchor the top spot and are ranked No. 35 nationally. Junior Jan Pallares and freshman Patrick Sydow have teamed up for an 8-2 mark in dual-match play.
Temple (4-4) claimed a 6-1 victory in its most recent outing against Bucknell. After taking three of the first five matches of the year, the Owls have dropped two of their last three. The Owls feature the No. 33 doubles duo in the country in Alberto Caceres Casas and Mark Wallner.
