Men's tennis downs Wichita State in San Diego
Mar 23, 2019 | Men's Tennis
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – In Day 2 of the San Diego Spring Classic, Memphis men's tennis downed Wichita State by a final of 4-2.
Memphis (10-8, 1-1) snapped a four-match skid and avenged a league loss to the Shockers earlier this month.
In doubles, the Tigers found wins at the bottom of the order to secure the opening point. In singles play, freshmen Oscar Cutting and Jeremy Taylor extended the Tigers' lead, before Story, who helped clinch the opening doubles point, secured the match for Memphis.
After Wichita State claimed a win at the top spot to start doubles, the Tigers evened the point when duo Jan Pallares and Patrick Sydow posted a 6-3 victory. On court 3, tandem Matt Story and Jeremy Taylor clinched the early momentum with a 7-5 win.
Cutting was the first off the court in straight sets, before Wichita State posted their first point of the day at the top spot.
The Tigers responded with Taylor's 6-2, 6-2 win on court 3. After WSU followed with its final win of the day, Story sealed the match for the Tigers behind a 6-4, 7-5 victory.
The Tigers will close the San Diego Spring Classic on Sunday with opponent and time to be announced.
