MEMPHIS --- The University of Memphis and the City of Memphis are partnering to enhance and enlarge the Leftwich Tennis Center in Audubon Park.
Located on Southern Ave. just east of the University of Memphis campus, the tennis center will become the home of the Tigers men's and women's tennis teams.
"The University of Memphis is and has been working very closely in partnership with the City of Memphis on the new home for our Tigers men's and women's tennis programs," said UofM President M. David Rudd. "Developing details will be shared on this project as we proceed."
The Racquet Club of Memphis, which will be closing this spring, has been the home of the University's tennis teams since 2009. Additional indoor and outdoor courts will be added to accommodate continued public use and the UofM teams.
"This is an opportunity for the University of Memphis and the City of Memphis to create yet another unique partnership that is a win-win for our community," said Athletic Director Tom Bowen.
Development, design, fundraising and operating arrangements are still to be finalized.
