STILLWATER, Okla. – In its second contest of a three-match road trip, Memphis men's tennis dropped a 4-2 decision at No. 30 Oklahoma State Sunday afternoon.
Despite dropping doubles, Oklahoma State (10-4) rallied for four singles wins to take the match.
Memphis took the early momentum with the opening doubles point. Freshmen duo Oscar Cutting and David Stevenson were first off with a 6-1 ranked win against Oklahoma State's No. 22 Mathieu Scaglia and Maxim Tybar.
OSU evened the point with a win at court 3, but junior Jan Pallares and Patrick Sydow clinched their seventh doubles point this season for the Tigers. Tied 5-5 in a tiebreak, Pallares tucked a shot inside the baseline for a mini-break. Sydow then served out the point to clinch.
In singles, Oklahoma State began to shift the advantage, winning four of the six first sets. The home Cowboys evened the match with a singles win at the top spot before Cutting posted a straight-set decision on court 6 to reclaim a lead for Memphis.
After OSU evened the match once more on court 2, Story and Taylor earned second-set wins to give the Tigers one last push. Despite the rally, the Cowboys posted wins at 3 and 5 to seal the win.
The Tigers will cap their three-match road swing with a league showdown at Wichita State Tuesday afternoon at 12 p.m.
