MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Carrying the momentum of a three-match winning streak, the Memphis women's tennis team travels to Virginia this weekend for a pair of road contests at Old Dominion and William & Mary.
The Tigers (5-5) begin their weekend with a visit to Norfolk, Va., to face Old Dominion on Saturday at 2 p.m. before closing the weekend against William & Mary on Sunday at 10 a.m. in Williamsburg, Va.
Last weekend, Memphis claimed a pair of home matches against UConn and Lipscomb. The Tigers sweep league-foe UConn on Friday before taking a 5-2 decision against Lipscomb on Sunday.
Sophomores Laura Bente and Lina Hohnhold each enjoyed a 4-0 weekend in doubles and singles play. Since forging a partnership in the doubles lineup two weeks ago, the duo has established a 4-0 record. In singles, Bente improved to 7-3 and is 5-0 at the No. 2 position. Hohnhold, who also tallied a pair of singles wins, improved to 7-3 as well.
Junior Katherine Cao provided the match-clinching point in both contests last weekend. After tallying a straight-set decision against Lipscomb, the Lenexa, Kan., native pushed her record to 6-1 with a six-match winning streak.
Old Dominion (9-2) has won six of its last seven, including a 4-3 win at No. 24 Tennessee two weeks ago. Last weekend, ODU dropped a 6-1 decision at No. 16 LSU on Friday but rebounded with a 4-2 win against Penn on Sunday. Both Monarch setbacks this season have come against ranked opponents, with the other being a 4-0 loss at No. 4 Duke in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend regional final.
William & Mary (3-7) snapped a two-game skid with a 7-0 sweep of George Washington on Sunday. The Tribe are slated for a road matchup against Maryland on Friday before facing the Tigers to close the weekend. Rosie Chang anchors the No. 1 spot for the Tribe with a 3-6 record. Mila Saric, who has played primarily among the bottom of the lineup, is 6-2 in singles action.
