Sanchez-Pinto sets school record in 5000 meters Friday

Tigers continue action in Music City Challenge Saturday.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Another trip to Nashville for the University of Memphis track and field team. Another school record set.

For the third time this season, the Tigers traveled to Nashville to compete in a Vanderbilt-hosted meet, this time the Music City Challenge. And for the third time this season, Memphis posted another school record, this time courtesy of Julian Sanchez-Pinto.

Sanchez-Pinto placed eighth in the men's 5000 meters in a school-record time of 14:31.49. He shaved nearly five seconds off the previous record of 14:36.18, which he set at the 2017 American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships.

It is the third school record set at a Vanderbilt-hosted meet this season. In the Dec. 1 Vanderbilt Opener, Jordan Wesner broke a 30-year-old mark in the men's high jump. Then, three weeks ago in the Jan. 19 Vanderbilt Invitational, Davon DeMoss re-set his school record in the men's 60 meters (6.61).

Tigers Tidbits
- Jordan Wesner won the men's high jump title with a 7-1.5 (2.17m) effort. It was the eighth indoor high jump crown of his career and his third this season.
- Saida Burns-Moore placed third in the women's high jump with an indoor personal-best of 5-9.25 (1.76m). It was Burns-Moore's 11thcareer indoor top-three finish in the event.
- Adam Neelly threw a personal-best 58-0.25 (17.68m) in the men's weight throw, edging out his previous-best of 57-11 (17.65m) set two weeks ago at the A-State Invitational.
- Savanna Owens raced a personal-best in the women's 200 meters.
- Gabrielle Byndas (women's) and Matthew Kamph (men's) ran in the first 5000 meters of their careers Friday.
