Tigers have 10 Saturday dates and a nationally-scheduled Thursday night game vs Navy
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Ten Saturday dates, a nationally-televised game against West Division foe Navy and a continuation of the Tigers' Black Friday home game tradition highlight the 2019 University of Memphis football schedule that was released by the American Athletic Conference, Thursday.
"Our fans asked me to fight for more Saturday home games and that's what I did," Athletics Director Tom Bowen said. "To be able to get a schedule with 10 Saturday dates and still have nationally-televised home games like we will with Navy was a challenge we embraced. We also have two bye dates in the 2019 schedule, both before key West Division games."
Memphis will open its 2019 season against regional foe Ole Miss. The long-standing rivalry returns to Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium this year, the first game between the two schools in Memphis since the Tigers' 37-24 win in 2015. Eight of the Tigers 12 wins in the series have come in Memphis.
Memphis will then host Southern (September 7) and head to South Alabama (September 14) before its first bye date of the season (September 21). That bye date will lead in to Memphis' American Athletic Conference opener against Navy on Thursday, September 26. That game airs nationally on ESPN.
The Tigers then play back-to-back road games, hitting the state of Louisiana for a non-conference matchup at UL Monroe (October 5), followed by the AAC road opener at Temple (October 12). Temple, USF and Cincinnati rotate back onto the Memphis schedule this year for the first time since 2016.
Memphis then plays four straight games against AAC West Division foes, starting with an October 19 game against Tulane. That Saturday game is followed by an October 26 game at Tulsa, then a November 2 game against SMU before the Tigers' second bye date of the season (November 9).
Following the second bye date, Memphis will play back-to-back conference road games, facing Houston, November 16, and USF, November 23. The season will close at home against Cincinnati, November 29.
The American Athletic Conference championship game will be played on Saturday, December 7.
Information about 2019 season tickets will be available soon. Times and tv partners for the first three weeks of the season are expected to be announced in June.
