DeMoss, Wesner Qualify For NCAA Indoor Championships

NCAA meet scheduled for Mar. 8-9 in Birmingham, Ala.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – University of Memphis senior Davon DeMoss and junior Jordan Wesner both have qualified for the 2019 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, the national organization released Wednesday.

The 2019 NCAA Championships are set for Mar. 8-9 at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Ala. The site also served as host for the American Athletic Conference Championships this past weekend.

DeMoss qualified for the men's 60 meters, and Wesner in the men's high jump. The men's 60-meters preliminaries are scheduled for Mar. 8 at 7:07 p.m. (CT), with the event's final set for Mar. 9 at 5:20 p.m. (CT). The men's high jump final starts at 1 p.m. (CT) Mar. 9.

Both DeMoss and Wesner are the first Tigers to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships since 2016 when Carolina Carmichael competed in the women's pole vault. DeMoss and Wesner are the first male performers to compete in the NCAA Indoors since 2014 when Pauls Pujats did so in the men's pole vault.

- First Tiger to qualify for the NCAA Indoors in a sprints event since 1983 (Victor Lacey, 440 yards)
- Only the second Tiger sprinter to compete at the NCAA Indoors (Victor Lacey, 1982 and 1983)
- Five-time All-American Athletic Conference Indoors honoree
- Three conference silvers (60m, 2019; 4x400m relay, 2018, 2019)
- Two conference bronze (60m, 2017; 200m, 2018)
- Holds indoor school records in the 60 (6.61) and 200 (21.10) meters, both of which were set in the 2018-19 indoor season
- Set the 60-meters school record at the Vanderbilt Invitational Jan. 19, breaking his previous record of 6.67
- Set the 200-meters school record at the South Alabama Jaguar Invitational Feb. 3 (meet was held at the Birmingham Crossplex), breaking his previous record of 21.18
- Also holds the program's outdoor 100-meters school record (10.17)
Jordan Wesner
- Second-time NCAA Championships qualifier for indoor or outdoor (competed in 2017 NCAA Outdoors)
- First-time NCAA Indoor Championships qualifier
- First Tiger in program history to qualify for the NCAA Indoors in the men's high jump
- Three-time All-American Athletic Conference Indoors honoree
- Two conference golds (2017, 2019)
- One conference silver (2016)
- Holds school indoor record in the men's high jump (7-4.5; 2.25m), which was set in the 2018-19 indoor season (at Vanderbilt Opener Dec. 1, 2018)
- School-record effort surpassed the previous record of 7-3.25 (2.22m) by Tyrone Betters in 1989
- Jumped 7-1.5 (2.17m) or higher in all four meets this indoor campaign
- Also holds the program's outdoor high jump school record (7-3.75; 2.23m)
